StoryWalk

At our last spring storytime today I hosted a StoryWalk.
The original StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT.
I modified the idea for my use at my library.

We used Denise Fleming's fabulous
Our small small pond
In The Small, Small Pond.
After an abbreviated storytime inside, we walked around the pond outside while reading the 15 panels from the book, each one displayed on a blank lawn sign holder.

This entire project was extremely affordable -- I purchased two copies of the big book, had them laminated, purchased the blank lawn signs and lawn sign holders and mounted the pages of the book onto the signs. The beauty of displaying a StoryWalk this way is that we can re-used the signs to display a different book at a different StoryWalk in the future (I used double-sided tape which is very easy to remove from corrugated plastic). My attendees were thrilled with getting their kids outside and we had absolutely perfect weather. A success!

  3. I love this idea. I hadn't seen it used for a library program before. I'm pinning for future program ideas.

  4. We are planning a Bookwalk at our library this summer, and were wondering where you got your signs and posts. Also, how much did they cost?

    1. Hi Liz,
I purchased two copies of the big book from amazon. They were about $20 each (you need two copies since the pages are printed on both sides! you have to cut-and-tape the double-spread pages together to make the pages from the book).
I purchased sign holders (with stakes) from amazon. For 25 sign holders/stakes it cost about $70. The entire enterprise ran just over $100, plus double-sided tape for mounting the pages of the books onto the signs.
We also laminated (in-house) the book pages so that they could easliy be removed from the plastic lawn sign placcards and re-used (or another book can be mounted onto the signs).
I also served snacks ... probably another $20. Thank heavens for Friends of the Library!
      Hope this helps!

  5. Because of this extreme tight fit it is nigh impossible to fit the two ventilated end pieces which, per instructions, are supposed to be fitted after the corrugated PVC panels have been put in. http://www.jx-plastic.com/corrugated-roll/
